Need an easy, no-fail recipe for brown rice? Look no further. There’s only 3 simple ingredients. Make a huge batch because this rice freezes beautifully.

Perfect Brown Rice

2 c. brown rice
3 c. water
1/4 t. salt

For a mild nutty, chewier rice, toast rice first in a dry skillet for a couple of minutes to brown.

Bring water and salt to a boil in a heavy sauce pan. Once the water boils, add the rice. Stir once, bring to a slow simmer, then turn the burner to its lowest setting (barely on), and cover the pan with a tight fitting lid. Cook, covered, for 35 minutes but don’t peek! The steam that is cooking the rice will escape. After 35 minutes, turn off the burner keeping the cover still on and let the rice sit, covered, for 15 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving. Yields 5 c. cooked rice.

Note: You may use vegetable stock instead of water and some of your favorite herbs to add a different flavor. If you do use salty vegetable stock, just omit the salt in the recipe.
