Mike’s mother is a wonderful baker, and a few years ago my daughter Taylor and I had the privilege of going through her recipes. We put most of them into a huge binder so she would have them in one place. We have no idea how long this molasses cookie recipe has been in the family, but we do know that Mike gets just a little excited when they come out of the oven. They are absolutely wonderful served warm with a glass of ice cold milk!

Grandma’s Molasses Crinkle Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger

Mix together shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses well. In separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Mix everything together. Chill dough for about an hour. Roll into balls. Dip tops in sugar and sprinkle water on top. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
